I watched that bethel service you linked. Yeah, what a circus show. It makes me uncomfortable just watching it, I can't imagine sitting through that! Yahovah does not approve...

I never heard of this church before but I have heard of the music from Bethel which I assumed was just the name of a publisher. The situation seems similar to Hillsong church music which I am more familiar with since I live in New York City and there's a branch here. I no longer sing any Hillsong music though my congregation still does. During these songs I just sit down and don't participate. I have made known to our worship leader my reasons. If we use any Bethel songs in the future I might consider doing the same thing after I have given it a little more consideration.

The guest preacher Sunday morning played a song on acoustic guitar and the singing was so off key that I didn’t even recognize the song at first and was cringing as he sang. Then he preached so loud, it was near yelling, I had to put my fingers over my ears while trying not to be too obvious sitting on the front row right in front of the guy. And he had no microphone (didn’t need one) in the house church. I am resolving to wear earplugs because some people’s voices are very loud.

I don't necessarily agree with all of Bethels views either, and they may seem a bit extreme in some ways, but you are definitely taking things way out of context and being quite dramatically harsh. I've heard some really good teaching from Bethel, and God is working through their ministry.

"changing the key to make it more singable" hits home with me. I love Chris Tomlin and Phil Wickham and all those artists, but I can't tell you the last time we did one of their songs in the original key. If people can't sing along with something they simply won't sing then you're not really leading anymore.

Thanks for this Spencer! A couple of questions. 1) regarding tone deafness....I agree on going back and listening but would a truly tone deaf person be able to recognize that they are off pitch? Could it also be that maybe they are hearing other parts and that's where the struggle is? 2) re not being respected as the Worship Leader, there's not enough information. What is it that makes this Leader feel disrespect? Also, doesn't leadership include walking along side the team and listening to some of their concerns and perhaps validating some of those concerns? Your example of singing songs in a more congregational appropriate key is one area that our Leader refuses to "buy in to". We've had several conversations about this. But it clearly aligns with your video on 3 ways to lose your congregation, which I have shared with him.

Those are common notes. 🎶-this brings people into the attitude of worship. When the Lords presence comes in the room the atmosphere does shift. It changes. Unexplainable things happen. You went with a contentious heart. You cut half his testimony off about the ear healing and baptism. People get healed and delivered all the time during the process of baptism.

Simply put….NO…..they shouldn’t even if your laws says it’s ok. Come on guys, this is simple stuff. I’m amazed that these sorts of questions have to be answered. Read the Bible and find out how one is supposed to live when living unto the Lord, it’s by presenting your bodies as a living sacrifice, HOLY & acceptable unto the Lord. There’s so many admonitions about what one should & shouldn’t do once you are born again. Grace isn’t given as a license to sin. We need some holiness teaching in Churches of today and for people prepared to stand up and call believers into a walk of holiness unto the Lord. It’s so lacking today.

Put the speakers behind the band instead of in front of them THEN they’ll know how loud it is! When you have ear plugs available at the desk to use during worship, & the music vibrates your chest & heart I’m certain the music is way, way, too loud. Also the band should be to the side of the congregation not up the front. That will stop a lot of ego trips from happening within the band and perhaps many won’t want to be there at the side. Too many worldly displays of entertainment being displayed in Churches today, especially with regard to praise & worship. It reminds me of going to a Rock Concert!!

I'm not Bethel fan, but some of you guys act like baptism is just this phenomenon that strangely showed up in the New Testament. The roots of baptism is from the temple, which you should know. It was the ritual cleansing at the laver that was administered via pouring or sprinkling. One of the reasons one was "baptized" was to verify being cleansed from leprosy. There's also the picture of Naaman being baptized in the Jordan for cleansing of disease. THESE ARE the roots of baptism in the law and in the temple rituals that were COMMANDED BY YHWH. I "tend" to agree with you about baptism, but can you seriously condemn them for following the example in God's eternal law?

How do people like this guy have thousands of subscribers when they can be so dense in their theology. I am in no way a Bethel Apologist or advent supporter. But how many timed did Israel do things to interact with God's power and presence whether it be in worship and praise or a similar act of obedient reverence? Before you just answer, read your Bible. Like in 2 Chron 20:20-23; Psalm 22:3; Isaiah 30:31-32; Joshua 6. What about the battle the Israelites fought against Amalek where Moses lifted God's staff and as long as his hands were lifted, they won, so that had set stones under them to keep them up and eventually people held his arms up. Is this pagan? There is a response of victory from God whenever Moses lifted his hands. And eventually they won the battle. (Exodus 17:8-15). People are ignorant of the spiritual aspects of our praise and corresponding acts we do in our worship. Our fight is not against flesh and blood, But spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). God is looking for the true worshippers to worship Him in SPIRIT and TRUTH. God is Spirit and we must worship Him in SPIRIT and TRUTH (John 4:23-24).

Two points: it is appropriate to call to worship and ask for God's presence to dwell with his people. People can just be encouraged to be honest before the Lord their God and unburden themselves in their own words, lift up holy hands in praise and worship offerings regardless, laying down burdens / casting them to God as they do so. The leaders of bethel church are not Christians folks. If they were truly in-dwelt by the holy Spirit of the living God (WHICH EVERY TRUE CHRISTIAN IS UPON SALVATION) they would be brought to their knees in tears under holy ghost conviction for the blatant heresies and blasphemies that they teach on a regular basis. They continually and without repentance preach and champion paganistic ideologies in the name of God while generating false miracles in the same manner of prosperity preachers and the majority of the charismatic Church world. They are false Shepherds who manipulate and deceive scripturally ignorant people. Shamelessly lulling them to sleep in they're iniquity while offering carnal prosperity in place of repentance and faith as they guide their flock hand in hand through the broad gate which leads to eternal destruction. These teachers are NOT the blind leading the blind. THESE TEACHERS ARE NOT CHRISTIANS PERIOD! They know what they are teaching is not the gospel of our lord. They intentionally drag scriptures kicking and screaming out of their context and beat them into submission to whatever they want it to mean so they can claim their messages are scripturally justifiable so people will follow them. !! It is vital to compare any message you hear from any preacher to the word of God and pray for the holy Spirit to give you clarity and discernment. Don't just take somebody's word for any of it. !! When someone has truly received salvation through repentance of sin and a real saving faith in the person and propitiation of Christ they are then justified by grace through faith (NOT BY WORKS). At salvation the holy spirit of God takes up residence in the heart of the believer existing there as a moral guide and teacher who engraves the truth of scripture into the walls of their heart so that they will grow in holiness. The holy Spirit continually works throughout the believer's life sanctifying them and separating them from worldliness and drawing them closer to God out from under the Dominion of the sin nature which dominated their life before salvation. SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT is one of the primary key gifts given by the holy Spirit to EACH AND EVERY SINGLE BELIEVER UPON SALVATION. Jesus said "my sheep know my voice." He's referring to the fact of spiritual discernment for those who are truly his. They will not listen to the voice of an imposter for long before they discern the truth. Bethel church does not and never has preached on behalf of the one true God and my heart burns for the countless thousands who are spiritually dying because of them. PLEASE PRAY FOR THESE PEOPLE TO BE SAVED!

For 10 years, I lived in Redding 3 miles away from Bethel. I was a member for all 10 years but stopped going to church at all for the last three years because of an issue that is too involved to explain here. I will just say that I was devastated and only because of being a seasoned Christian did I survive the mistreatment i.e. spiritual abuse. I will just say that what you share here is the tip of the iceberg of the problems at Bethel. There are wonderful people there who truly love Jesus, but not everyone has the spiritual maturity and background of truly studying the scriptures to be aware of the things that are off base, New Age. the good news is that God Almighty is on the throne and he is cleaning house. The Bible says judgment comes to the household of faith first. It’s happening.

My question to you is, “did the LORD tell you to publicly declare your concerns or was it just a decision you made?” I believe that scripture says to leave the tares to grow with the wheat and at the time of the harvest there would be separation!” What it seems to me is that you are making yourself to be the judge of that which is righteous and that is not righteous. Judge yourself so that you won’t be judged. If you have concerns about what your brother is doing, go to him in private. Scripture tells us that satan is the accuser of the brethren.

Shifting the atmosphere is a manmade concept where people are in control of what God does. None of the Holy Spirit inspired writers of the Bible mention that we must shift atmospheres.

I've visited Bethel and I agree with some of your criticisms here although I wouldn't call them a 'heretical ministry' like you do. To be honest though, I've never heard of 'worship pastor' either and it seems a bit of a weird unbiblical title?
